Jasprit Bumrah has been key part of Indian side in Tests over the years.
The Indian Cricket Team and the Sri Lanka Cricket Team are up against each other in the first match of a two-Test series. The game between the two teams is underway at the Galle International Cricket Stadium in Galle.
India won the toss and opted to bat first in the encounter, which marks their 600th appearance in the longest format of the game. This marks an important game for the Shubman Gill-led side in the context of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 as they are placed fifth on the table.
They need to win the majority of their remaining games if they want to fancy their chances of reaching the ICC WTC final. In the ongoing SL vs IND Test, India opted for a combination of two pacers and three spinners.
However, what caught the attention of many was Jasprit Bumrah not being in the XI. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna are two frontline pacers while Manav Suthar will accompany Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja in the spin department.
Why is Jasprit Bumrah not playing in the first SL vs IND Test?
The reason behind Bumrah not playing in the first SL vs IND Test is that he has been ruled out of the series. The pacer was earlier named in the team, but his participation was subject to fitness.
Bumrah got injured in the second ODI against England. He felt some discomfort in his knee and then was ruled out of the third ODI of the series. But at that time, it was reported that his injury wasn’t serious and he would be fit for the Sri Lanka series.
However, just ahead of the series, he was ruled out of the series as the management didn’t want to rush him. In his place, Auqib Nabi was drafted into the squad, thanks to his brilliant domestic performances.
