England aim for a comeback in the 2nd ODI against India, taking place on Thursday, July 16, at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. It is a do-or-die game for Harry Brook & Co. as they have already lost the opening encounter of the three-match series.
Brook won the toss in the ENG vs IND 2nd ODI and opted to field first. At the toss, he revealed England‘s playing XI for the encounter. Notably, pacer Josh Tongue and spin all-rounder Liam Dawson are not part of the match.
Both of them featured in the previous game. Dawson scored a crucial half-century, helping the team to make a comeback after a batting collapse at the start.
He also made a crucial stand with Joe Root (76*) and enabled the team to reach a respectable total of 258/10. On the other hand, Tongue could only bag one wicket and leaked 50 runs in his 10-over spell.

At the toss, Brook revealed that Saqib Mahmood has been included in the playing XI in place of Tongue. Moreover, Gus Atkinson has replaced Dawson in the encounter.
England have opted for more seamers in the playing XI in Cardiff. Hence, their pace attack is being led by Atkinson, Jofra Archer, Mahmood, and seam all-rounder Sam Curran.
Speaking about the decision to bowl first, Harry said at the toss, “We’re gonna have to bowl today. Nice even spread of grass. So hopefully we can get a little bit of seam movement and swing up front. Just execute slightly better, I think. I’ve always said we’re never out of games and I thought we put up a really good fight last game”.
Revealing the playing XI, he added, “To take it that deep was an awesome effort from the guys and yeah, some more of that really. (On team changes) Josh Tongue and Liam Dawson come out for Saqib (Mahmood) and Gus Atkinson”.
