Mitchell Marsh’s absence from PAK vs AUS 1st ODI took many by surprise.

Pakistan Cricket Team and the Australia Cricket Team are clashing in a three-match ODI series. The opening game got underway today at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Pakistan are coming into the series on the back of Test series defeat against Bangladesh last month. Shaheen Afridi is leading them in the ODI series against Australia, where a few senior players have returned to the squad.

Australian players did not play any international cricket recently as they were busy in the Indian Premier League 2026 over the last two months. In the PAK vs AUS 1st ODI, the hosts won the toss and opted to field first. Notably, Mitchell Marsh is not part of Australia’s playing XI in the encounter.

Notably, Marsh has been ruled out of the series due to an ankle injury. He sustained the injury in IPL 2026, where he represented Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He was a stand-out batter for LSG, finishing as the leading run-scorer for the team with more than 500 runs.

Notably, key players like Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc have also been rested due to workload management after IPL 2026.

Josh Inglis is leading Australia in the series. Speaking at the toss, Inglis informed that Oliver Peake is making his debut in the encounter.

“Yes, Oliver Peake will make his debut today. He’s had a great start to his career. He’s incredibly exciting. I think one of the best things about Ollie, he’s got a really good head on his shoulders, and we’ve seen in some big moments, he’s stood up. So hopefully plenty more of those moments to come,” he said.

“It’s quite dry, so we’ll assess as quick as we possibly can and hopefully put a good total on board. (Talking about the squad) I think it’s just the squad that we’ve got together at the moment. We sort of thought that we’d get these conditions again after those T20s, and it looks like we’ve got something similar,” he added.
