Mohammed Siraj recently took part in India A’s match against New Zealand A.

Mohammed Siraj was not again named in India’s XI for the second ODI against New Zealand in Wellington on Saturday, November 7. He featured for India A in second unofficial Test against New Zealand A. The match ended on November 3, leaving little time for the fast bowler to get ready for the ODIs.

India began the three-match series with an eye on the 2027 ODI World Cup. They had a terrifc outing in the first game, winnig the clash by five wickets.

In second NZ vs IND ODI, India won the toss, and captain Shubman Gill chose to bowl first. However, Siraj’s absence was a talking point as for the second straight time in the series, he was benched.

Mohammed Siraj joined the India squad for the second ODI recently. He was expected to feature in the XI in place of Auqib Nabi. However, India went in with a same XI, dropping him again. This could be to manage his workload after his recent appearance for India A. He played in the second unofficial Test against New Zealand A in Christchurch and had a great outing with the ball.

Siraj picked up four wickets in the match and played an important role in the contest. With very little time between the end of the red-ball match and the start of the ODIs, India have opted to give him a break for the opening game.

Siraj could return for third ODI, which would help him to prepare for the Test series. Just like the other Test regulars, he will leave the ODI setup after third game.

After winning the toss, Gill confirmed that India would bowl first. He also explained the team’s bowling combination for the opening match.

“We’re going to bowl first. No surprises there. The overcast conditions and the wicket being under covers for a couple of days. (Have you managed to get outside for some practice in the last couple of days) No, not really. Practice was called off yesterday because of some rain, but I think we got some good practice in the match that we played a couple of days ago.

“(What have you said to your guys between Auckland and here) Not much, to be honest. I think it’s all about consistency, and if we are able to repeat the performance that we did in Auckland, I think we’re going to be in a good space. We’re playing the same team/
