Why is Mohammed Siraj not playing for IND vs WI in 2nd ODI?

Mohammed Siraj was expected to lead India’s pace attack in IND vs WI series.
India and West Indies are up against each other in the second game of three-match series. The match is being played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday, September 30. The series is important for both teams to prepare for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Shubman Gill won the toss and decided to bowl first against the West Indies. India have also handed an ODI debut to Auqib Nabi as they look to test different players and combinations. He replaced Nitish Kumar Reddy, who looked poor with ball in last game.
India won the opneing game by eight wickets, but there was a cause of concern in bowling department. However, despite not having a great outing with ball in first game, Mohammed Siraj yet again missed out from the playing XI. He was expected to lead India’s pace attack in the series but was not picked for first two games.

Mohammed Siraj’s absence could be linked to his recent form. He looked slightly off-colour in the last series and also appeared to have lost some pace.
However, there has been no official statement from the Indian team confirming that form or pace was the reason behind Siraj’s omission.
India’s bowling attack for the match includes Gurnoor Brar, Prasidh Krishna, Auqib Nabi and Kuldeep Yadav, with Ravindra Jadeja and Naman Dhir also offering bowling options.
The decision also gives India an opportunity to assess other players and combinations ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. With a long ODI season ahead, India could rotate their bowlers and give different players opportunities.
Siraj’s omission from the second ODI does not necessarily mean he will miss the entire series. India still have one match against West Indies, and his return could depend on the team’s combination, workload and requirements.
For now, there is no official confirmation that Siraj has been left out specifically because of his recent form or pace. More clarity could come from the team management after the match.
