Mohammed Siraj has played only 10 ODIs since 2023.
Mohammed Siraj has been one of India‘s most successful fast bowlers in recent years, especially in the 50-over format. However, his appearances in ODIs have reduced considerably since the 2023 World Cup. Despite his performances in the format, the pacer has not been a regular member of India’s ODI team.
Mohammed Siraj had an excellent run in 2023, when he picked up 44 wickets in 25 matches. He played an important role in India’s bowling attack during the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup. His performance against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final, where he took six wickets for just 21 runs, has been one of the highlights of his career.
However, his chances have reduced since that year. Siraj has played only 10 ODIs since the start of 2024. He was also left out of India’s squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy, raising further questions about his place in the team’s plans.

One of the main reasons behind Siraj’s limited appearances appears to be the team’s selection choices and bowling combinations. India have tried different fast bowlers in the format, while Siraj has continued to feature more regularly in Test cricket.
He played only three ODIs in 2024 and three in 2025. In 2026, he has featured in four matches so far. His most recent ODI appearance before the New Zealand series came against the West Indies on October 3, where he picked up one wicket for 52 runs.
Former India spinner Murali Kartik has also questioned the limited opportunities given to Siraj. Speaking on Cricbuzz, Kartik said, “Why are you getting rid of Mohammed Siraj from the playing XI? What wrong has he done?”
Kartik also pointed out that Siraj played only one match in the recent ODI series against the West Indies. He believes the pacer should get a longer run in the team, especially with Jasprit Bumrah unavailable.
Mohammed Siraj’s ODI record for India
Siraj has played 51 ODIs and taken 77 wickets at an average of 25.67. His best bowling figures in the format are 6/21, which he recorded against Sri Lanka in the 2023 Asia Cup final.
His numbers in 2023 were particularly impressive, as he finished the year among India’s leading wicket-takers in ODIs. With the ODI World Cup scheduled for 2027, India will need to settle their pace-bowling combination.
Siraj’s experience and record make him an important option, but he will need regular opportunities to remain part of the team’s plans.
