Yashasvi Jaiswal has been a backup opener for India in ODIs but was not named for New Zealand ODIs.
India are set to face New Zealand in a multi-format series, with the teams scheduled to play five T20Is, five ODIs and two Test matches. The tour will give India a chance to prepare for upcoming international assignments and test their players across formats.
The five-match ODI series is scheduled to begin in Auckland on November 4. The selectors have several options to choose from as India look to build a strong team for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
India have a number of experienced players in their ODI setup, while some young batters are also looking to secure regular places in the team. However, the absence of Yashasvi Jaiswal from the ODI squad has raised questions about his chances of playing the format regularly.

The selectors have not shared a clear reason for leaving Yashasvi Jaiswal out of India’s ODI squad for the New Zealand series. His absence shows that he is not currently a top choice for the team for ICC Cricket World Cup 2027.
Jaiswal has performed well in international cricket and has shown his talent in all three formats. However, he has not got many chances to play ODIs regularly.
India already have several opening options, including Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan. This makes it harder for Jaiswal to get a place in the playing XI.
Jaiswal has done well in the limited chances he has received in ODI cricket. He scored two centuries in his first six ODIs, showing that he can play big innings. It was expected that he would be there at least in last two games, but with Test series just after the ODIs, selectors might have not named him to keep him fresh for Tests.
