Yashasvi Jaiswal was part of Afghanistan series but has been dropped from England ODIs.
On Sunday, July 21, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian Cricket Team’s squad for the ODI series against England. The two teams will clash in three ODI games in July.
Recently, Shubman Gill & Co. completed a 3-0 clean sweep against Afghanistan in an ODI series, winning three games in a dominating fashion.
Now, India are scheduled to play a T20I series against Ireland towards the end of this month. It will be followed by a T20I and ODI series against England in July. After the conclusion of the T20I series, India and England will clash in three ODI games from July 14 to 19.
The BCCI have brought seniors back to India’s squad for the ODI series against England, which will be a challenging tour. Axar Patel Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli have returned to the side.
Surprisingly, opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal was dropped for ODI series against England. He was part of the recent campaign against Afghanistan, featuring in two games out of three. He got out cheaply in the 2nd ODI but hammered a ton in the third encounter, winning Player of the Match award.
Why was Yashasvi Jaiswal snubbed from India’s squad for England series?
Jaiswal has been snubbed from India’s squad as there is no place for him in the squad. The top order in the 50-over format is packed with batters like Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer.
Also, since all the above senior members are highly experienced and prominent batters in ODIs, switching their positions in the crucial campaign against England for Jaiswal will be a big risk. Therefore, selectors have opted to keep Jaiswal out of the squad for the England ODI series.
Also, Virat Kohli’s return for the England ODIs has shut the door for Jaiswal to feature in England series. Kohli didn’t play in the previous series against Afghanistan due to a hamstring injury and Jaiswal was added as a replacement.
With Kohli’s return, there’s no vacancy left in the top order in the Indian team. It is to be noted that Kohli’s return in England tour is subject to fitness as he is recovering from his hamstring injury. If he is ruled out of the tour at the last moment, Jaiswal might earn a call-up like happened in the Afghanistan ODIs.
