Why did PCB impose HEAVY fines on players right after Pakistan's T20 World Cup 2026 campaign?

Pakistan have won just one match in the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2026.

Following a disappointing T20 World Cup 2026, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed fines on all players who participated in the tournament.

Pakistan were eliminated from the tournament before the semi-finals, making it the second consecutive time they failed to qualify for the last four spots in the T20 World Cup. Pakistan qualified for the Super 8 stage, but their decline in the tournament began soon after.

After their match against New Zealand was abandoned due to rain, the Salman Agha-led team lost to England. However, a win over Sri Lanka was not enough to save the team from elimination from the tournament.

How much fine did PCB impose on the Pakistan players?

According to ESPN Cricinfo’s report, the PCB has fined the entire Pakistan squad a combined USD 18,000 after they failed to reach the T20 World Cup semi-finals. Each player has now been fined PKR 5 million.

The fines were not based on any disciplinary action; the players were fined solely for substandard performance on the field. The fine was imposed after their 61-run loss to India and would have been revoked if the team had reached the semi-finals.

The PCB is known for taking strict action against players after disappointing performances in major tournaments, although this action is based on disciplinary grounds.

However, in this case, there were no internal issues between the players, making the performance-based penalty a unique case.

Although the team did not progress far in the tournament, there were some positives. Sahibzada Farhan, for example, is currently the tournament’s leading run-getter, achieving a new record for the most runs scored in a single T20 World Cup. He also became the only player to have achieved two centuries in the tournament.

Given the team’s poor performance, the Pakistan Cricket Board has taken a bold step, reflecting the growing need for the national team to perform at the international level.
