Why did Prabhsimran Singh miss 3rd ZIM vs IND T20I in Harare?

Prabhsimran Singh was expected to play 3rd ZIM vs IND T20I.

The Indian Cricket Team have already sealed the T20I series victory against Zimbabwe. They won the first two games of the series in dominant fashion, winning the first by seven wickets and the second T20I by 90 runs. They are currently playing the third T20I of the series and have made two changes, bringing in Ashok Sharma in place of Prince Yadav and Suryansh Shedge in place of Shivam Dube.

However, Prabhsimran Singh, who was added to the squad for this series, was not given an opportunity in any of the three matches. Known for his explosiveness at the top of the order, Prabhsimran forced his way into the T20I squad after a series of impressive performances for the Punjab Kings in the IPL over the last few years.

However, even in the series against Zimbabwe, where some key players could have been rested, the team management did not give him a single opportunity. On that note, let’s have a look at why Prabhsimran Singh is not part of India’s playing XI against Zimbabwe in the third T20I.

Why is Prabhsimran Singh not playing third ZIM vs IND T20I?

The main reason India might not have given Prabhsimran Singh any chance in the series is probably because they were in poor form, having lost the T20I series against Ireland and then England. So, they treated the Zimbabwe series not as a series to test the bench players but as an opportunity to make sure their main players get their form back.

Throughout the series, the Indian stuck with their top order to give them some game time. They were going through very poor form in overseas conditions, and they needed a series like this to regain their confidence. Even though the team gave chances to some bench players like Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma, and Suryansh Shedge, the likes of Prabhsimran Singh, who is a top-order batter, did not get any chances.

Many experts, including Aakash Chopra, raised questions over this, but the team management stuck with their main opening combination of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma. Prabhsimran, who is still waiting for his international debut, may have to wait a little longer, but eventually he will also be given a chance to prove himself on the international stage.
