Donovan Ferreira had scored a match winning half-century against PBKS yet Ravindra Jadeja came ahead of him.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) opted to bat first against Delhi Capitals (DC), in Match No. 43 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The decision seemed to backfire almost instantly, as RR’s in-form openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi were both for the first time dismissed for single digit scores this season.
However, RR recovered from the slow start thanks to captain Riyan Parag’s special knock, stitching an important partnership alongside Dhruv Jurel. He smashed his first 50 of the season, however, Jurel soon holed out to depart for another modest innings.
With the pitch playing extremely well, the Royals will be desperate for a 200+ score. A surprise emerged following Jurel’s wicket, as Ravindra Jadeja was sent out to bat instead of Donovan Ferreira.

Ravindra Jadeja played a fine hand scoring an unbeaten knock of 43 runs from 29 balls against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), which proved to be a match winning effort in the end. However, Donovan Ferreira is the most explosive finisher amongst RR’s ranks and with more than seven overs in hand, the South African could create more impact if he found his rhythm.
Vikram Rathoure, Rajasthan Royals’ batting coach, while speaking to broadcasters, opined that Jadeja is a better player of spin, and the decision to send him ahead of Ferreira was taken, mainly keeping Kuldeep Yadav’s remaining two overs left in mind.
Vikram Rathour also said that Jadeja’s electric running between the wickets will help RR score runs in the middle-overs. However, Ferreira proved the decision to send him after Jadeja completely wrong, as he smashed three sixes against Kuldeep Yadav in the 17th over.
Against his former team, the South African laid the finishing touches to propel his team to an above-par total.
