Why did Renuka Singh miss IND-W vs NED-W game of Women’s T20 World Cup 2026?

Renuka Singh also missed India’s last game against Pakistan.

After a brilliant win in their Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 opener against Pakistan, India are up against Netherlands in their second match of the tournament. The match between the two teams is taking place at the Headingley in Leeds on Wednesday, June 17.

Netherlands won the toss and put India into bat first. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side announced two changes in the side, with Yastika Bhatia and Nandini Sharma replacing Bharti Fulmali and Arundhati Reddy, respectively.

However, one notable exclusion which caught the eye of many fans and experts was that of Renuka Thakur, India’s one of the most experienced medium pacers. She missed last game against Pakistan, but was expected to make a comeback, especially with Arundhati Reddy getting benched.

At the toss, Harman said:

“I think it’s a very great opportunity for us to bat first because it’s a little hard condition due to the overcast weather, but I think we want to bat first and we wanted to challenge ourselves. I think it’s about sticking to your own plans and batting as deep as possible because in these conditions you can’t start hitting from the very first ball. You really need to spend some time at the wicket and then you can take the game ahead. I think that is the key, and hopefully we will bat well.”

India have gone with Nandini Sharma and Kranti Gaud as their medium pacers for this match, while Renuka Thakur yet again missed out.

One of the possible reasons behind Renuka Singh getting benched could be her poor form. When India played the two warm-up matches ahead of this tournament, Renuka picked just one wicket in two games. She had economy of 11 and 7.5, respectively. But with the kind of player that she is, she is expected to play part at some stage.
