Rohit was part of MI’s last four games in IPL 2026.
Mumbai Indians (MI) are clashing with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League 2026 on Thursday, April 16. While MI have won just one of four matches, PBKS are unbeaten in four matches so far, with one match ending in a no-result.
PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to field first in the clash. He revealed that PBKS have made no changes to their playing XI.
On the other hand, Hardik Pandya informed that MI have made some changes in their playing XI. Rohit Sharma was not part of the match. Quinton de Kock was picked as a replacement.
Why is Rohit Sharma not part of MI’s playing XI vs PBKS?

Notably, Rohit Sharma sustained a hamstring injury in the previous game against RCB while batting. Due to the injury, he retired hurt and did not resume his batting later. Although Rohit was seen in practice sessions, he has not fully recovered. At the toss, Pandya informed that Rohit might miss a few more games due to recovery.
“Yeah, Rohit is out from the last game. He’s gonna take a couple of games for him to see how exactly where he is. And Mitchell is unwell as well. So Mitchell Santner also is not available. So, yeah, we got a couple of changes. Quinny comes back and we have a debutant, Mayank Rawat,” Pandya said at the toss.
Rohit was part of all the previous games so far. He also scored a half-century in the opening game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). MI take the ninth spot in the points table with two points, winning just one game out of four so far.
