The clash between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) of the Indian Premier League 2026 is underway at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. RCB have set a mammoth target of 241 runs for MI.
MI captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to field first. However, his decision did not work out as MI bowlers were hit all around the park by RCB batters. They completely failed to dominate them and halt them from reaching a big total.
In the chase, MI opener Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma gave a quick start to the batting. They helped the team reach 62 runs in the power play. Sharma scored 19 runs off 13 deliveries and was looking in good touch. However, he retired hurt in the sixth over.

Notably, Rohit suffered a hamstring injury while batting and was retired hurt. Suryakumar Yadav replaced him on the crease. However, Rohit can resume his batting later as he has retired hurt.
Speaking about RCB’s batting, opener Phil Salt and Virat Kohli made an opening stand of 120 runs. After Salt got out for 78 runs, Kohli and Rajat Patidar scored crucial runs in the middle overs, making a stand of 65 runs. Eventually, both of them scored half-centuries.
Towards the end, Tim David scored an unbeaten 34 runs to drive the scoreboard to a mammoth total. For MI, Trent Boult, Hardik Pandya, Mitchell Santner, and Shardul Thakur got one wicket each. However, they failed to strike early.
Notably, Kohli did not arrive at the field in the 2nd innings due to an ankle injury he suffered while batting. He was sitting in the dugout during RCB’s bowling.
