India are clashing with England in the third T20I of the five-match series on Tuesday, July 7. The encounter between the two teams is underway at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. This is a crucial match for India to keep their hopes of winning the series alive, as they trail 0-1 after the first two matches.
India have an upper hand in head-to-head clashes against England. However, the latter are known for their supremacy at home, which was quite evident in the last game as they chased a 191-run target with ease. Hence, the third T20I poses a big challenge for the visitors to overpower the Harry Brook-led side.
In the ENG vs IND 3rd T20I, India won the toss and opted to field first. It was revealed during the toss that Sanju Samson is once again not part of the playing XI. The right-handed batsman played in the opening game but missed the previous clash in Manchester.
Why did Sanju Samson miss ENG vs IND 3rd T20I?
Sanju Samson has been overlooked for the 3rd T20I between England and India. India have retained Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma as openers in tonight’s clash.
In the previous game, Sooryavanshi replaced Samson in the playing XI and also made his international debut. The left-handed batter hit two sixes to score 14 runs before losing his wicket in the powerplay.
Speaking at the toss, Indian skipper Shreyas Iyer said, “We’re going to bowl first. [On the narrow defeat in the previous game and backing the bowlers] Yes, I think that was just a hiccup which you can’t control, and you definitely have to back your bowler. He’s thinking a bit too much, but I know everyone goes through that patch. But boys are in high spirits anyway. I had a chat with him”.
India made only one change to their side, replacing Ravi Bishnoi with Prince Yadav. Revealing the playing XI, the Indian skipper added, “So, a great learning for him as well and also for the team. Certainly, by the looks of it, I feel it’s a beautiful wicket. And definitely, one side is short, so we want to maximize the use of it and see how they bat. We’ve got one change. Prince Yadav comes in for Bishy (Bishnoi)”.
