Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi is captaining Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League 2026. They played the tournament opener on March 26 against Hyderabad Kingsmen and won the clash by 69 runs. However, they lost their second game against Karachi Kings by 4 wickets.
Afridi picked up one wicket in the first game against Hyderabad. He captured a four-wicket haul in the second game in a losing cause. With five wickets in two games, he is the joint-highest wicket-taker in the tournament currently.
Amid his brilliant performance in PSL 2026, Afridi has been caught in a big controversy. The left-arm pacer has been fined PKR 1 million by his team, Lahore Qalandars.
Shaheen Afridi fined for breaking security protocols at team hotel
Notably, Qalandars have imposed a huge fine on their captain for breaching security protocols. He was accused of breach of internal security protocols at the team hotel on March 28.
According to the reports, four unauthorised visitors were denied entry to the players’ floor at the team hotel, despite formal requests to the hotel’s security personnel and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
However, Afridi reportedly escorted the visitors to the hotel room, where they stayed for nearly three hours. Following the incident, Lahore Qalandars issued an official statement fining Afridi. They described the decision as a measure to maintain discipline and accountability within the team.
“In the interest of maintaining discipline and demonstrating accountability, the franchise has taken a voluntary and proactive step by imposing a fine of PKR 1 million on Shaheen Shah Afridi for his involvement,” the statement said.
Notably, Afridi’s teammate Sikandar Raza took the responsibility for the incident, stating that the four visitors were his longtime friends and family members. He clarified that Afridi only assisted him in the incident.
