Notably, Shreyanka Patil has been ruled out of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 due to an injury. The Harmanpreet Kaur & Co. outplayed the Netherlands in their previous game on June 17 at Headingley, Leeds.

In the encounter, the off-spinner sustained a severe leg injury. While bowling the 6th over in the 2nd innings, she tried to chase the ball towards mid-on and slipped, landing awkwardly on the field and twisting her ankle.

She was seen in severe pain and was unable to put any weight on her right leg and had to be stretchered off the field. Following a scan by the BCCI’s medical team, it was confirmed that she had sustained a ligament injury to her right ankle. As a result, she was ruled out of the tournament.

The BCCI has named 24-year-old leg-spinner Prema Rawat as Shreyanka’s replacement in India Women’s squad. She has also been picked in the playing XI vs South Africa.

Speaking about her decision to bat first, Harmanpreet Kaur said at the toss, “We want to bat. I think it’s a good pitch and if we bat first, we could get a result that will help us to win the game. I think it’s a very good pitch. The only thing is we have to give some time in the middle and then we can take the game ahead”.

Responding to featuring in her 200th T20I, she said, “200 games, I think, honestly, it’s been an amazing journey. I never thought I’ll come that far, but I think God has been kind and I’m really thankful to him and to my family, friends, BCCI, all my teammates”.

Revealing the playing XI and Prema’s T20I debut, she added, “Shreyanka is missing because of her injury. In place of her, Prema is going to make her debut. And we have one more change. Kranti is resting today. Arundhati is playing. [About debutant Prema] Just to enjoy. I think I’m more nervous playing 200th game and she is someone who looks very calm and hopefully she’ll enjoy the game”.

India Women’s Playing XI vs SA: Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Yastika Bhatia, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Richa Ghosh(w), Deepti Sharma, Prema Rawat, Arundhati Reddy, Shree Charani, Nandni Sharma.
