Why is Shubman Gill not playing SLCXI vs IND warm-up Test?

The Indian Cricket Team are scheduled to face Sri Lanka in the two-match Test series in August. This is the first time since 2017 that India will travel to Sri Lanka for a test series. India have a great record against the Islanders.
They have not lost a Test series against them since 2008. The first test is scheduled to be played at Galle International Stadium, starting on August 15 (Saturday), while the second game is scheduled to begin on August 23 (Sunday) at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.
A warm-up game is scheduled for Team India in Colombo before the series starts. That three-day match is underway against the Sri Lanka Cricket XI. India lost the toss and were put to field.
But Indian captain Shubman Gill didn’t feature on the first two days of the warm-up games. It was KL Rahul, who was leading the team in his absence.
Why Shubman Gill is not taking part in the SLCXI vs IND warmup game?
Shubman Gill didn’t take part in the ongoing warmup game for Colombo. That raised concern among the Indian fans about the fitness of the Indian captain. Gill was hit on his finger during the training session on Thursday.
That was the reason he didn’t take part on Day 1 of the warmup game. The BCCI confirmed it in a statement that Gill was hit on his finger and has not taken part in the game due to precautionary reasons.
The statement states, “Captain Shubman Gill sustained an impact injury to his right ring finger during India’s practice on Thursday. As a precautionary measure, he will not take the field on Day 1 of the warm-up game against SLC XI.”
Gill was not seen on the field even on Day 2 and is likely to miss out on the entire warm-up game. His presence will be important for Team India, as he has been in red-hot form with the bat and will have a key role going forward in the Test series.
Meanwhile, India have had a tough start to the warmup game. SLC XI scored 363/8 and declared the innings. India have also responded well and have reached 150 runs with a loss of two wickets.

The first SL vs IND test will start on August 15 in Galle.
