Why are Travis Head & Mitchell Marsh not in Australia's ODI squad for Bangladesh series?

Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh last played in IPL 2026 for SRH and LSG, respectively.
After recently losing to Pakistan (2-1) in a three-match ODI series, Australia are set to clash with Bangladesh in an ODI series. Both sides will lock horns in three games.
The opening game will take place on June 9 at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. The second and the third encounters will take place at the same venue on June 11 and 14, respectively.
On June 8, Cricket Australia (CA) announced the squad for the Bangladesh ODI series. Two key batsmen, Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, are not part of the campaign. Both of them also missed the recently concluded ODI series against Pakistan.
Why are Mitchell Marsh & Travis Head absent from Bangladesh ODIs?

Notably, Marsh has been ruled out of the ODI series against Bangladesh due to an ankle injury. He sustained the injury while playing for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2026.
On the other hand, Travis Head will miss the campaign due to personal reasons. He has requested leave after IPL 2026 to spend time with his family. Unlike Travis, Marsh is expected to return for the T20I series against Bangladesh after recovering from his ankle injury.
Speaking at the press conference while announcing India’s squad, Australia selector Tony Dodemaide said, “We were hopeful Mitch Marsh would be available for the Bangladesh ODI series however he is still returning to full fitness from an ankle injury. Mitch will join the group in Dhaka and begin preparations for the T20I Series,” he said.
“Travis was initially selected in the ODI and T20I legs of this Bangladesh tour but has subsequently been granted personal leave for both. We look forward to seeing him again for the top end Test Series against Bangladesh,” he added.
Meanwhile, Josh Inglis is set to lead Australia in the ODI series against Bangladesh in the absence of skipper Pat Cummins and vice-captain Marsh. He also captained the team in the recently concluded Pakistan ODIs.
