Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has earned a maiden call-up in the IRE vs IND T20I series.
India are set to take on Ireland in a two-match T20I series. The IRE vs IND 1st T20I is taking place on Friday, June 26, at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast. Shreyas Iyer will lead the Indian team in this series. He was recently appointed the new T20I captain.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has snubbed Suryakumar Yadav from T20Is to build a strong team under Iyer’s captaincy for the coming years, which can bag laurels at the LA Olympics 2028 and the ICC T20 World Cup 2028.
Ireland have been a popular side over the years, who have also stunned the cricket fraternity with big upsets in ICC tournaments. However, they have not yet secured a victory against India in T20Is and have lost all eight games.
In the IRE vs IND 1st T20I, India won the toss and opted to bowl first. At the toss, Iyer informed that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is not part of the playing XI. He has been named in the squad but was not picked in the opening game, where he was expected to make his international debut.

Shreyas informed at the toss that Vaibhav will get his chances at the right time. Hence, he was overlooked for the first game against Ireland. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson will continue to open for India in the 1st T20I.
Speaking about Sooryavanshi’s absence from the playing XI, Iyer said, “We’re going to take one match at a time. Always keep saying that you don’t have to complicate things. Unfortunately, no (Vaibhav playing?). He’ll get his opportunity when the time comes. For now we’re going with three genuine seamers, 1 allrounder”.
About opting to field first, Iyer further said, “Going to field first. It’s a new surface for us, first time in Belfast. Considering the conditions, the environment and the wicket, want to field first. He’s just asked all the players to be themselves and be relentless in the approach. Ruthless. So many other adverbs I can put in here. Need to get accustomed to the conditions as quickly as possible”.
