Yashasvi Jaiswal was expected to feature in first IND vs WI ODI.
The Indian Cricket Team and the West Indies Cricket Team are facing each other in the three-match ODI series, starting on Sunday. The first ODI is underway at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram, at 2 PM IST.
Both teams lost their last series and will be aiming to bounce back. Team India lost to England 1-2, while West Indies lost the ODI 3-2 against New Zealand. India are missing Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and Ishan Kishan, as they are with the T20I side for the Asian Games 2026.
Hardik Pandya hasn’t recovered from the injury yet. Meanwhile, there are a few new faces who joined the squad. Naman Dhir and Aquib Nabi have received their maiden ODI calls, while Ravindra Jadeja is making his return to the ODI setup since January.
Fans are excited as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be in action. Team India have not lost an ODI series against West Indies since 2006 and will be looking to start this series with a win.

In the first IND vs WI ODI, Shubman Gill won the toss. India have put West Indies to bat first in Trivandrum. Naman Dhir is making his debut for India, while Ruturaj Gaikwad has been slotted at no. 4 in place of Iyer.
India have gone with Gurnoor Brar, Prasidh Krishna, and Kuldeep Yadav as specialist bowlers and Jadeja and Nitish Reddy as two all-rounders. But the biggest news is that Yashasvi Jaiswal is not playing. The left-hander has played six ODIs for India and scored 285 runs at 71.25 with two centuries.
In fact, he has scored two centuries in his last three ODI innings. But unfortunately, he hasn’t had many chances in the ODIs. India already have Gill, and Rohit Sharma at the top, which is why Jaiswal has to sit out.
India have 20 odd games left before the 2027 ODI World Cup, and it seems India have made the decision to go with Gill and Rohit at the top. Gill, being a captain, is certain at the top. Rohit is playing only one format, and India won’t change his position at this stage of his career.
