Romario Shepherd’s name not being there in the team sheet for WI vs ITA clash in T20 World Cup 2026 caught many by surprise.
The West Indies Cricket Team are up against the Italy Cricket Team in match 37 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The Eden Gardens in Kolkata is hosting the last group game of both teams in the tournament on Thursday, February 19.
The West Indies have already qualified for the Super 8 stage of the tournament after their three impressive games in group stage. On the other hand, Italy, by far, have looked the best associate team in the tournament. They have played quality cricket and now would want to end their campaign on a high.
Although it is a dead-rubber, the WI vs ITA game holds great value for both teams. While the West Indies would want to enter the Super 8 stage on back of win, Italy, who have received lot of praises, would be keen to bring their best and dent the confidence of their opposition.

West Indies captain Shai Hope had mentioned that Romario Shepherd was rested on a precautionary measure. He had said during WI vs ITA:
“Yes, one change. Shepherd out, Matthew Forde comes in. Slight little niggle, Shepherd’s been struggling a little bit, but we just want to make sure precautionary measures are being in place and Forde can come in and do the job. So we’re very happy to give him some rest today.“
West Indies would hope that Shepherd recovers quickly as the Super 8 stage is around the corner. The all-rounder has been in a great form with bat and ball in the tournament, and will be important for his team going ahead.
