Will BCCI sack Gautam Gambhir after debacle in Ireland & England?

Gautam Gambhir has come under scanner after India’s loss to Ireland and England.

The Indian Cricket Team is going through a tough time in T20 internationals. They first lost the two-match series to Ireland 2–0, and after that, they also lost the series to England, currently trailing 0–3 with one more game to go.

The same side that lifted the T20 World Cup trophy earlier this year in March are struggling to register a single win in overseas conditions. Many questions are being asked about the performances of the players as well as the team management. The team’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, has also been under criticism from the fans and the media.

Expectations are always high in Indian cricket, and every major setback inevitably raises questions and criticism about the leadership behind the team. Pressure is also building on the team management as well as coach Gambhir following a disappointing run on the recent tour of Ireland and England.

What will be Gautam Gambhir’s future with Indian team?

Ever since Gautam Gambhir was appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team, the team has enjoyed a few successes, including winning the 2025 Champions Trophy and the 2026 T20 World Cup. Gambhir has already delivered two ICC trophies, and he is eyeing more.

However, the team has also struggled in several bilateral series under his leadership. Especially in Test cricket, India lost two home series, ending an unbeaten record that had spanned over a decade. In ODI cricket, they also lost to New Zealand in home conditions, and now they are lost T20I bilateral series to Ireland and England overseas.

Even though these losses are significant and there should be accountability from the team management, the team have enjoyed far more success under coach Gambhir’s tenure. Gautam Gambhir’s current contract as the head coach with the BCCI runs until the end of the 2027 Cricket World Cup, and it is most likely that he won’t be sacked before his contract ends.
