The fifth T20I match is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 11, at The Rose Bowl, Southampton.

The Indian Cricket Team is on the verge of back-to-back whitewashes in T20I series. The same side that won the World Cup earlier this year in March have failed to perform overseas. They first lost 0–2 against Ireland, and they are now 0–3 down against England with one more game to go.

However, they have already lost the series, and the maximum they can do now is avoid a whitewash. The India are ranked No. 1 in the ICC T20I rankings, and they have held the top spot for the last 1,605 days. This shows their dominance in T20I cricket over the past few years.

They won back-to-back T20 World Cups, in 2024, where they defeated South Africa in the final and lifted the trophy under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, and in 2026, they defeated New Zealand in the final to lift the trophy under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav.

However, Suryakumar Yadav was sacked as captain and dropped from the team before the Ireland series because of his poor form. Now, the team are finding it tough under Shreyas Iyer‘s captaincy and are yet to register a win under him. On that note, let’s have a look at which team will be No. 1 in the ICC T20I rankings if India lose the fifth T20I against England.

If England defeat India in the fifth T20I match of the series, they will overtake the Men in Blue to become the new No. 1 team in the ICC T20I rankings. This will end India’s reign at the top after a record 1,605 days.

India have struggled so far in Ireland and England, but they still have one match to avoid an embarrassing whitewash. They would like to have at least one win under their belt to save their reputation as well as their No. 1 ranking.

The fifth T20I match is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 11, at the Rose Bowl, Southampton. The main reason India are yet to register a win in the last two series has been the failure of the top order.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, whose debut was widely cheered as he became the youngest player to make his debut for the India, has also failed to make an impact in this series, with his Rajasthan Royals teammate Jofra Archer dismissing him two out of three times in the series.

Others, including Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, have also failed to play consistent, impactful innings. The Indian team management would like to ensure that the top order gets back into form.

What is the Indian team’s current streak as the No. 1 team in the ICC T20I rankings?

The Indian cricket team have held the No. 1 spot in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings for 1,605 consecutive days.

Which team will be ranked No. 1 in the ICC T20I rankings if England defeat India in the fifth T20I?

If England defeat India in the fifth T20I, England will overtake India to become the new No. 1 team in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings, ending India’s long stay at the top.
