Jordan Cox is amongst the most talented batters in RCB’s lineup.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are preparing for an important clash against Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on May 7 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. Bengaluru is currently in a strong position at the points table and are close to confirming their place in the playoffs. They are currently on 3rd position on the IPL 2026 points table with 12 points.
However, one talking point ahead of the match is the defending champions’ opening combination. Phil Salt remains unavailable because of a finger injury. In his absence, young England batter Jacob Bethell has been opening alongside the team’s legend Virat Kohli in the last three matches.
Bethell has shown flashes of aggression but has not converted his starts into big scores. The left-hander has managed only 39 runs in three matches. This has raised questions about whether RCB could hand a chance to another England batter, Jordan Cox, against LSG tonight.
Will Jordan Cox play LSG vs RCB game of IPL 2026?

There is growing excitement around Cox. The wicketkeeper-batter was signed by RCB for INR 75 lakh during the IPL 2026 auction. He enjoyed a brilliant campaign in The Hundred last season. The 25-year-old scored 367 runs at an average of 61 and a strike rate of 173.93 while playing for Oval Invincibles.
He was the ‘Player of the Tournament’ as the Oval Invincibles (who are now MI London) claimed their third consecutive title in The Hundred. He was also seen having an extended net session ahead of LSG vs RCB clash of IPL 2026.
Despite his strong form, Cox may still have to wait for his IPL debut tonight. The main reason is the nature of the Lucknow pitch. The Ekana surface has been slow and spin-friendly throughout the season. Bethell’s ability to bowl part-time spin gives RCB an extra option in the middle overs.
Bethell can also match up well against LSG batters like Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Josh Inglis. That added balance could help him retain his place in the playing XI for now.
RCB management may still view Cox as a strong backup option for the remaining league matches. But for tonight’s clash, Bethell appears slightly ahead in the selection race because of the conditions in Lucknow.
