KL Rahul retired hurt on 77 on day one of SL vs IND first Test.

The Indian Cricket Team made a strong start to the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, putting themselves in a comfortable position after the opening day. The Shubman Gill-led side finished Day 1 at 288/2, with Devdutt Padikkal scoring a brilliant unbeaten century and Rishabh Pant also looking settled at the crease.

On Day 1, India won the toss and chose to bat first on a good batting surface. The openers gave a solid start before a mix-up led to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s run-out. KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal then built a strong 150-run partnership, putting India in a dominating position.

However, there was one concern for India. KL Rahul had to retire hurt on 77 after suffering cramps on Day 1 of SL vs IND 1st in Galle. He had already played an important role in India’s innings, first adding 47 runs with Jaiswal and then sharing a 150-run partnership with Padikkal.

However, he looked uncomfortable towards the end of his innings and eventually had to retire hurt. It raised the question of whether Rahul will return to the crease on Day 2  after retiring hurt on Saturday.

India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak gave a major update on Rahul’s condition. According to Kotak, Rahul was suffering from cramps and had recovered well by the end of Day 1.

“KL batted really well. I think he was getting only cramps. So, by the end of the day, he was fine,” Kotak said after the day’s play.

He further added, “But at the moment he looked absolutely fine. So he should be good to go tomorrow.”

The update suggests that Rahul is expected to return to bat on Day 2 if India needs him. Since he retired hurt rather than being dismissed, he can resume his innings later.
