Lungi Ngidi badly hurt his head after an awkward fall while taking a catch during the match vs PBKS.

Delhi Capitals (DC) are set to take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday, April 27. The fixture comes at a crucial point in the league stage, with both teams looking to strengthen their positions on the points table.

RCB enter the contest in strong form, sitting in the top half of the standings with multiple wins this season. In contrast, Delhi Capitals have struggled for consistency and are currently placed in the lower half, making this game important for their playoff hopes.

Team selection will be a key talking point for DC ahead of the clash, particularly in the bowling department. Injuries and availability concerns will force management to reassess their options as they prepare to face an in-form RCB side.

Serious Injury: Lungi Ngidi rushed to hospital after suffering head injury in DC vs PBKS clash of IPL 2026

Lungi Ngidi is unlikely to feature in the DC vs RCB clash due to a recent injury sustained in Delhi’s previous match against Punjab Kings (PBKS).

The South African fast bowler suffered a blow after falling awkwardly while attempting a catch during the match. He fell badly on back of his head, following which he required immediate medical attention on the field.

Ngidi was taken off the ground in an ambulance and later shifted to a hospital for further evaluation. The incident raised concerns around his availability for the upcoming fixtures, given the nature of the impact.

Subsequent updates confirmed that Ngidi did not suffer any serious injury and was stable after medical checks. He was later discharged from the hospital and rejoined the team, which came as a positive development for DC.

However, despite the positive update, head injuries are treated with strict caution under concussion protocols. Players are required to undergo multiple assessments before being cleared to return, even if initial reports are reassuring.

As per the latest update, Ngidi has rejoined the team hotel after being cleared of serious injury, but he is still unlikely to be considered for immediate selection.

Mitchell Starc would have been an ideal replacement for Ngidi, but reports indicate that he is being gradually brought back into action and is likely to be available for selection only from May 1 onwards.

DC are therefore expected to explore alternative options in their bowling lineup. Dushmantha Chameera or Kyle Jamieson could come into contention as replacements, depending on team combination and conditions.

With no official confirmation of his inclusion and medical clearance still a factor, Ngidi remains doubtful for the match against RCB. The final decision is expected to depend on the team’s medical staff and last-minute assessments before the game.
