Will Pakistan get eliminated from ICC T20 World Cup 2024 if they lose against Canada? Explained

Pakistan are yet to open their account at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Babar Azam-led Pakistan are having a disappointing run in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 till now. The Men in Green have played two group stage matches and lost both encounters.

In their first match of the tournament, Pakistan were outclassed by the co-hosts United States of America (USA) in a Super Over.

In their next Group Stage match against arch-rivals India, the Men in Green slumped to a 6-run loss on June 9 in New York. The defeat against the Rohit Sharma-led India was a huge blow to Pakistan’s chances to qualify for the Super Eight stage of the competition.

What will happen if Pakistan suffers a defeat against Canada?

The Babar Azam-led Pakistan are all set to take on Saad Bin Zafar’s Canada in a must-win match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 11. 

In the Group A standings, the Men in Green are placed fourth with zero victories and NRR of -0.150. However, a defeat against Canada will knock them out of the T20 World Cup 2024, because even if the Babar-led side win their last group stage match against Ireland, they will reach a maximum of two points, which is not sufficient for them to qualify.

Currently, India and the USA have four points each in the Group A standings of T20 World Cup 2024.
