Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has finally reached the playoffs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in Qualifier 1 of the tournament at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
RCB came up with a brilliant performance in the league stage of IPL 2026; they finished at top spot in the points table with 18 points, winning nine games out of 14 matches. With this, they secured the spot in Qualifier 1, but their opening combination got unsettled in the last few games due to injury to Phil Salt.
The English batter has been missing from the RCB lineup for over a month now due to a finger injury, and his return could make a massive difference to how RCB approach the game against Gujarat Titans. Salt played a crucial role in RCB’s maiden IPL title-winning season and was expected to replicate the same in IPL 2026. However, his absence left a massive void in team’s lineup.

Captain Rajat Patidar gave an update on Salt’s condition during the pre-match press conference in the RCB vs GT game. Patidar confirmed that Salt is fit and has resumed training drills with the team.
However, he also said that the Salt is still under observation from the medical team, and the management has not yet decided the playing XI.
“Salt is fit. He is Under Observation from the doctor. He has been participating in a few drills but we haven’t decided on our Playing XI yet. We will look at the wicket and decide.” RCB Skipper Rajat Patidar said.
Salt is very close to returning to action, but RCB are likely to take a final call before the toss. However, the chances are quite high that RCB will go with Venkatesh Iyer, who played an exceptional knock in the last match against SRH.
Salt injured his left finger while fielding in the match against Delhi Capitals on April 18, 2026 and returned to the UK for scans and treatment. He played six matches for RCB this season and scored 202 with an impressive strike rate, giving RCB explosive starts at the top. After treatment in England, Salt returned to the RCB camp ahead of the IPL 2026 playoffs.
