Hence, the UP cricketer is one of the most prominent figures in the KKR dressing room.
His latest domestic campaign has further strengthened his case for taking over the captaincy. Rinku led the Meerut Mavericks to the UPT20 League 2026 title, beating the Lucknow Falcons by 94 runs in the final. It was a massive milestone in the batter’s career and was a huge addition to his leadership credentials.
Rinku is now increasingly being discussed as the natural successor to Rahane at KKR. His successful stint with the Mavericks and his experience working with the KKR management add to his case.
However, there are reasons why KKR will have to consider the possibility carefully. IPL captaincy brings a significant amount of pressure on a player, which is far more than leading a domestic T20 side.
While Rinku’s batting and finishing remain a crucial part of his job at KKR, they might not be risking that for anything. Only time will tell what Rinku’s fate will be with the Kolkata Knight Riders, but his case currently appears to be very strong.
