Will Rinku Singh's marriage be postponed after his father's death?

Rinku Singh is scheduled to marry Priya Saroj, a Samajwadi Party MP, in June 2026.

Indian cricketer Rinku Singh lost his father, Khanchand Singh, on Friday, February 27, after he was battling against prolonged liver cancer. He was already on stage 4 of liver cancer, and he breathed his last at the Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida, where he was receiving treatment.

He was admitted to the ICU (Intensive Care Unit), where his health condition was deteriorating with every passing day. Mr Singh was receiving continuous renal therapy as doctors attempted to stabilise him. However, he lost his life as his health condition declined rapidly.

Rinku even went back home to meet his ailing father, who was battling for his life. The southpaw joined the Indian team on the eve of India‘s Super 8 match against Zimbabwe. He did not play the match but was seen out on the field during India’s bowling innings.

After the death of his father, Rinku Singh flew back home for the last rites in Aligharh. His participation for the remainder of the tournament is yet unknown. It remains to be seen whether he plays any further part in India’s campaign in the T20 World Cup 2026. BCCI has also not given any official confirmation on this yet.

India are still alive in the tournament after beating Zimbabwe by 72 runs in their Super 8 match in Chennai. On the other hand, the West Indies lost their Super 8 match to the Proteas on Thursday. Now their match against India will become a virtual quarter-final, and the winner will qualify for the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, at a time when Rinku Singh and his family are lamenting the death of his father, several reports are circling in the media that his marriage to Priya Saroj, a Samajwadi Party MP, is likely to be postponed. Both got engaged in June 2025 and are scheduled to get married in June 2026.

However, if reports are to be believed, their marriage is likely to be postponed after the untimely death of Rinku’s father. As of now, Rinku is back home in Aligarh and preparing for his father’s last rites. As far as the Indian team is concerned, they are also focusing on their next Super 8 match and are rallying behind their Indian teammate.

Sanju Samson replaced Rinku Singh in the XI against Zimbabwe and scored a quickfire 24 off 15 balls. His opening combination with Abhishek Sharma worked wonders for India in the match, and this might be the team’s template in their next match against the Windies on Sunday.

Rinku has played five matches in the T20 World Cup 2026 so far, scoring 24 runs, including two innings in which he remained unbeaten.
