Will Rohit Sharma play tonight in CSK vs MI clash of IPL 2026?

Rohit Sharma has played four games in IPL 2026 so far.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are set to clash with Mumbai Indians (MI) tonight in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The encounter will take place at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.

It will be the second clash between both sides in IPL 2026. In the earlier game, which took place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, CSK crushed MI by 103 runs. On the back of century by Sanju Samson, Chennai piled up 207/6 in the first innings. Mumbai succumbed to the pressure and were bowled out for just 104 runs.

Notably, Rohit Sharma was not part of the previous clash between both sides. He sustained an injury during an earlier clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 12, which has forced him to miss all the action since then.

He injured his hamstring while batting in the second innings and had to retire hurt. Rohit has not played any games since then. Although he has recovered from his hamstring injury and is participating in the training sessions, he is yet to resume his stint in IPL 2026.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference on Friday, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene said that Rohit is working hard to get match fit and attending training sessions. However, the management will make a decision on his participation in the CSK vs MI game today after a discussion with the medical team.

“He is working really hard to get back at it. So for us with the medical team, it’s on a daily basis. We see how he feels, how he pulls up the next day. So we’ll make a decision tomorrow. We’ll see him practicing today as well. So let’s see how he feels tomorrow and what the medical team will tell us,” Mahela Jayawardene said.

Meanwhile, Sharma scored a half-century in the opening game but struggled to go big in other matches. At an average of 45.67 and a strike rate of 165.06, the MI opener has scored 137 runs in four games.
