Rohit Sharma scored a century in Mumbai’s first game in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26.

Indian Cricket Team opener Rohit Sharma made a fabulous start in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, hitting a century in Mumbai’s opening game against Sikkim. The encounter took place at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Wednesday, December 24.

Taking the opening slot in the clash, Rohit hit 155 runs off 94 deliveries, smashing 18 fours and nine sixes in the process. With his fabulous batting, he helped Mumbai to chase down a 237-run target with ease and also was also adjudged Player of the Match.

However, the 38-year-old batsman failed to repeat his batting heroics in the second clash against Uttarakhand, grabbing a golden duck. This time, Mumbai batted first and Rohit lost his wicket in the first over itself. Despite losing him cheaply, Mumbai eventually won the encounter by 51 runs to win two games in a row.

Will Rohit Sharma play in Mumbai’s third game against Chhattisgarh in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26?

Mumbai, who are captained by Shardul Thakur in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, will clash with Chhattisgarh in their third round of the tournament. The Group C encounter will be played on Monday, December 29 at Sawai ManSingh Stadium, Jaipur.

Rohit Sharma will not be part of the clash as he was named in Mumbai’s squad for the first two games only. Hence, he is set to be absent from the next encounter. According to recent reports, Yashasvi Jaiswal will be available to play for Mumbai’s third game and is expected to take the opening slot in Rohit’s absence.

Meanwhile, the veteran Indian batsman is pulling his socks up for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, which will begin on January 11 with the opening game in Vadodara. Smacking two fifties in the last ODI series against South Africa, he was a stand-out performer to watch out for.

In the prior ODI series against Australia in October, he clinched the Player of the Series award by hitting a fifty and a century across three games. After his wonderful batting show in the campaign, he also jumped to the top spot in ICC’s rankings for ODI batsmen.
