Ryan ten Doeschate was appointed as assistant coach in July 2024.

Following India‘s poor performance in the T20I series against England and Ireland, the BCCI will hold a meeting to identify the reasons for the defeat. Shreyas Iyer & Co. failed to win any of the seven games in both series, losing 0-4 against England and 0-2 against Ireland.

Some recent reports also claim that the governing body is discussing the future of support staff members, like assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, pace bowling coach Morne Morkel, and fielding coach T Dilip.

While T Dilip has been India’s fielding coach since the era of former head coach Rahul Dravid, Doeschate and Morkel were handpicked by Gautam Gambhir after his appointment in July 2024.

Notably, Doeschate’s two-year contract is due to end in July 2026, and according to reports, he is likely to step down from his position.

Ryan Doeschate to step down as India’s assistant coach

According to a Cricbuzz report, Doeschate wants to move on with his role as India’s assistant coach after the ODI series against England.

The former Netherlands batsman is expected to step down from his position after the final ODI between England and India at Lord’s on July 19. He has conveyed his request to the BCCI to be relieved just after the campaign.

However, the final decision is subject to approval from the BCCI and head coach Gautam Gambhir. Gautam has veto power to reject his request, although it is unlikely he will do so. He has had a cordial relationship with Doeschate over the years.

Ryan was appointed as India’s assistant coach exactly two years ago in July 2024. The report also states that there are several reasons behind his decision to withdraw. Doeschate wants to spend more time with his family, which is based in London. Also, he is facing issues with continuous travel with the Indian Team.

As a result, he is looking for a role that demands less travel and allows him to spend more time with his family. He has three young sons who need his attention. Since his wife is also working, he wants to devote more time to his family.

The report also revealed that BCCI has no plans of parting ways with fielding coach T Dilip. Earlier, some media reports alleged that Dilip would be removed from his post after India’s dismal performance in the Ireland and England tours. Contrary to speculation, Dilip is highly likely to continue with his role.
