Sanju Samson’s place has come under massive scanner following his poor outings in T20Is.
The first T20I at Chester-le-Street was washed out before England could bat, leaving the five-match series at 0-0. India made a comeback after a disappointing loss in the Ireland series. They posted a competitive 189/7 with Abhishek Sharma’s fiery knock of 59 runs, and captain Shreyas Iyer’s responsible and crucial innings of 68 runs.
With the series still level at 0-0, every remaining game has become even more important. Both teams will be looking to take an early lead in the second T20I at Old Trafford in Manchester. India’s batting looked strong despite the early collapse in the first T20I. Sanju Samson will again be in the spotlight ahead of the second T20I.
England have made two changes as Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue are all set to play in the second T20I in Manchester. These two quality pacers will test India’s top order in conditions that have already exposed many batters. This means Sanju Samson now has to play more responsibly and prove his position in the playing XI.
Will Sanju Samson get dropped if he fails in second ENG vs IND T20I?

Sanju Samson’s recent scores have made his spot look less secure, and his last three T20I innings (5, 0 and 1) have been poor.
India lost the Ireland series by 2-0, a historic whitewash that shocked everyone. Samson’s recent failures at the top of the order have seen many questioning his position in the playing XI, especially with young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi on the bench.
In the first T20I against England in Durham, he scored 1 run off 7 balls and never once looked like he was trying to play his natural game. He looked uncomfortable and unable to read the moving ball.
Despite the poor run, the Indian coaching staff has continued to back him. Both assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and bowling coach Morne Morkel have clarified that Sanju played a key role in India’s T20 World Cup triumph and diverse more chances before any changes are made.
Even though the management has publicly supported Samson, one more failure could make the selection debate much stronger. The pressure is no longer about the runs; it’s about competition for the place. The youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is sitting on the bench, who had a brilliant performance in the past few months.
Will Sanju Samson be dropped if he fails in the second T20I?
There is no official confirmation, but another poor inning could increase pressure on the team manager to make a change.
When is the second T20I between India and England?
The second T20I will be played on July 04, 2026, at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester.
