Will Sanju Samson play tonight in 4th ENG vs IND T20I?

Sanju Samson was dropped from the Indian XI for the second and third T20I against England.

After the last two disappointing games, the Indian Cricket Team are set to take on the England Cricket Team in the fourth game of the five-match T20I series. The series-decider between the teams will be played at the County Ground in Bristol on Thursday, July 09.

The ENG vs IND series is currently in England‘s favour, with them 2-0 ahead. After the opening game between the teams was washed out due to rain, the hosts displayed their dominance at the home and won two consecutive games.

After a close fought second T20I, India suffered a horrific loss in the third T20I as they registered their biggest defeat by runs, losing by 125 runs. The Men in Blue will now enter the clash under immense pressure. Ever since they arrived in the UK, nothing has gone in their favour. First, they lost both the games against Ireland and then didn’t start well in England, where they can only draw the series.

The fourth ENG vs IND T20I now will be a must-win game for India if they have to fancy their chances of drawing the series. Captain Shreyas Iyer, in particular, will be under pressure as he is yet to win his first game.

Will Sanju Samson play in the fourth ENG vs IND T20I? 

India made a surprising call in the second T20I when Sanju Samson was dropped. The decision didn’t go well with many and it was expected that he would be there in the XI for third game. However, the same thing continued in that game as Samson was yet again benched.

Samson, who was Player of the Tournament in T20 World Cup 2026, was dropped after just three failures. In this place, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been asked to open the innings but, he too has failed to make the mark.

There have been reports which claimed that selectors are not happy with Samson’s inconsistency, which is why he was also not picked in the team for the Zimbabwe tour. However, head coach, Gautam Gambhir was open to admit that he has given clarity of Samson about his omission.

Despite Gautam Gambhir’s statement, the chances of Samson playing the fourth ENG vs IND seem very low as management would want to give a long rope to 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who became the youngest player to make his debut for India in the second game. 

However, if team management are looking to drop Tilak Varma, who also has struggled to get going, then there are chances that Samson might make it back into the XI. It remains to be seen if the keeper-batter makes it into the side or not.
