Both Sri Lanka and Pakistan have been knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2026.

One final day remains in the Super 8 of T20 World Cup 2026, after which kicks off the highly anticipated knockouts. Co-hosts Sri Lanka, who were in talks for being a title contender after beating Australia, have slumped in form since. The defeat against Zimbabwe was a signal of what is to come, as they end the Super 8 winless in front of their home crowd.

Despite a good effort against Pakistan in a dead-rubber for them, they eventually fell just short. It was a campaign hampered by injuries for Sri Lanka, with main bowlers Wanindu Hasaranga and Matheesha Pathirana being ruled out due to injuries.

Pakistan too were well below par in this T20 World Cup. After a near upset against Netherlands in the opener and a thrashing at the hands of India, Pakistan were edged out in a close clash vs England. In the end due to poor run rate, New Zealand advanced to the next round, forcing Pakistan to pack their bags and return home.

The semi-finals and final would have been moved away from India on only two conditions. Due to Pakistan’s clause with the BCCI and ICC, they would not travel to India for any match. Hence had Pakistan reached the knockouts, they would have played their match in Colombo.

Secondly, had Sri Lanka qualified, and Pakistan not reached the semis, then the semi-final involving Sri Lanka would have been played in Colombo, barring a situation where the semi-final would be against India, in which case it would have been held in Mumbai.

With both Pakistan and Sri Lanka knocked out, all three remaining matches will be held in India. Therefore the Sri Lankan leg of the T20 World Cup 2026 is now officially over.

Will Sri Lanka host any more T20 World Cup 2026 matches?

No, Kolkata, Mumbai and Ahmedabad will play host for the knockout matches.

Will Sri Lanka will not host any more T20 World Cup 2026 matches?

Since Pakistan and Sri Lanka are both eliminated, rest matches will be held in India.
