Vaibhav Sooryavanshi didn’t play 1st IND vs AFG T20I at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
The action in the ongoing series between Afghanistan and India shifts to the second encounter. This contest has a scheduled start of 7:30 PM IST on September 15 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
India recorded an easy win in the first game courtesy of an all-round performance. The bowling unit did pretty well. Arshdeep Singh impressed once again with 3/19 in his four overs. Jasprit Bumrah (1/26) and Varun Chakravarthy (1/16) also bowled well.
With the bat, Abhishek Sharma led the chase with a 22-ball half-century. He scored 82 off 32 balls, with seven sixes and seven fours and a strike rate of 256.25. Ishan Kishan played a supporting role with a 33-ball 42 runs.
However, Sanju Samson couldn’t score much, and he got his chance. He got out for 10 off 8 balls. Sanju’s inclusion was the reason that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was sitting on the bench. But now, Sanju has failed in the first game, and the calls to include Sooryavanshi has raised.

The toss will take place at 7 PM IST on Tuesday, and the lineups will be decided. Sanju was the Player of the Tournament during the T20 World Cup 2026 a few months back and played a major role in India winning the title.
But since the tournament, his form has declined a bit in T20Is. He has played five matches since then and recorded scores of 5, 0, 1, 27, and 10. In this period, India gave the debut cap to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, and the youngster played six T20Is, scoring 193 runs at a strike rate of 189.21.
He scored two half-centuries and won the Player of the Series award in Zimbabwe. However, India went in with Sanju in the first T20I against Afghanistan. But his poor return in the first game has ignited rumors of him getting dropped.
Though there is no official confirmation yet, but fans expect Sooryavanshi in the playing XI. However, the Indian management dropped a hint that they want to give Sanju more chances.
Captain Shreyas Iyer also indicated that the 15-year-old has to wait for his chance. However, if Sanju fails in the second game, it will increase the chances of him getting dropped from the third game.
When will the second IND vs AFG T20I match start?
The second T20I will kick off at 7:30 PM IST on Tuesday at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
