Vaibhav Sooryavanshi impresses during India’s practice session in Ranchi.

Team India will look to continue their winning run against the West Indies in the five-match T20I series. After winning the first match by 8 wickets in Lucknow, the hosts will aim to take a 2-0 lead in the second T20I in Ranchi on Friday, October 9.

India have looked good with the bat, with captain Shreyas Iyer leading from the front in the series opener. He scored an unbeaten 102 to help India chase down 172 runs. However, Sanju Samson‘s recent form has become a talking point ahead of the second match.

Samson scored just 11 runs off nine balls in the first T20I. His scores in his last four T20I innings are 9, 7, 2 and 11. This has raised questions about whether India should give young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi an opportunity at the top of the order.

According to The Times of India, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi impressed during India’s practice session in Ranchi ahead of the second T20I. The 15-year-old reportedly hit several big shots towards the stands, adding to the discussion about his possible inclusion in the playing XI.

With Samson struggling to score runs, India might consider giving Sooryavanshi a chance to open alongside Abhishek Sharma. However, the team management may also choose to back Samson for another match rather than change the opening combination after just one game.

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra also believes that Sooryavanshi is unlikely to replace Samson for the second T20I. He feels the team management should give Samson enough opportunities instead of questioning his place after every low score.

Speaking on his official YouTube channel, Chopra said:

“Will there be a chance of him playing? No, it won’t be there. You will have to agree that it cannot happen that he plays now, and if we start saying this about Sanju Samson after every match, then we are damned. How will you manage cricket then? Just don’t go there.”

Samson was part of India’s successful T20 World Cup campaign earlier this year, scoring 321 runs in five innings. He also scored two half-centuries against Afghanistan in September. These performances could help him retain his place despite his recent struggles.

Vaibhav’s aggressive approach and ability to score quickly make him an option alongside Abhishek Sharma. However, India may prefer to continue with their established opening combination of Sharma and Samson.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s inclusion remains uncertain. India could continue backing Sanju Samson despite his recent low scores.

He has scored 246 runs in 8 T20Is at a strike rate of 186.36, including two half-centuries.
