LSG bought Wanindu Hasaranga in IPL 2026 auction for INR 2 crore.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) hit the jackpot when they bought Sri Lankan spin all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction in December last year. The franchise acquired him at his base price of INR 2 crore after Rajasthan Royals (RR) released him.
Earlier this year, Hasaranga played in the home series against Pakistan and England and came up with a brilliant performance in the campaign. He was also part of Sri Lanka’s squad in T20 World Cup 2026, which concluded on March 8.
In Sri Lanka’s opening game against Ireland, the right-arm spinner came up with a match-winning performance, capturing a three-haul to lead the team to victory by 20 runs. However, he also experienced issues during the match.
Later, the scans revealed a serious tear in his left hamstring. As a result, he was ruled out of the remainder of the T20 World Cup. He has been recovering from his hamstring injury since then. Amid his recovery, he went unsold in The Hundred 2026 auction recently.
Wanindu Hasaranga might miss IPL 2026 due to injury

Although it has been more than a month since Hasaranga sustained his hamstring injury, he is yet to completely recover and is uncertain to play for LSG in IPL 2026. The season is scheduled to commence on March 28, and there is still no confirmation related to his participation in the league, with some unverified reports suggesting that he might miss the season.
LSG will play their opening game on April 1 against Delhi Capitals (DC). The franchise is currently monitoring Hasaranga’s progress, who will be a key spinner in their squad. However, LSG have not made any official announcement regarding his availability for the opening game. On the contrary, the Rishabh Pant-led side has not stated anything about him getting ruled out of the tournament.
