Will Jacks’ absence has been badly felt by Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026.
Not many would have predicted that Mumbai Indians (MI) will find themselves languishing at the bottom of the points table with only one win after playing five matches in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. However, such is the unpredictability of the tournament, which can be both generous and extremely cruel for teams if they do not get their act together quickly.
Despite a sensational squad on paper, MI have found it tough going mainly with the ball in hand. Their recent match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) was a grim reminder of the same, as they conceded a 190+ target with more than four overs remaining.
The best bowler in the format, Jasprit Bumrah, has not picked a wicket in the IPL 2026 season so far, which has futher compounded their problems. With more questions than answers, the five-time winners are already heading towards must-win territory.
Against them will be Gujarat Titans (GT), a side which is brimming in confidence after three consecutive wins. The two teams will be up against each other on Monday in Ahmedabad. MI has never won at the Narendar Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, and have no momentum whatsoever in the build-up to this clash.

Will Jacks was acquired by MI in the 2025 IPL auction for a massive INR 5.25 Crore. Last year, the English all-rounder played an important role in helping MI reach the playoffs, contributing with both bat and ball.
Leading up to the IPL 2026 season, Jacks was in splendid form, having won four man of the match awards for England in T20 World Cup 2026. He was set to play a huge role for MI, but is continued absence has left fans disappointed and searching for answers.
He had initially asked for an extended break to spend time with his family, but is still yet to arrive in India. Head coach Mahela Jayawardene has now for the second time in his pre-match press conference stated that Jacks will soon join the team, however, there is no clarity on his exact joining date, meaning that he will miss the clash against GT.
MI will hope he returns for MI’s home match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Thursday.
