Pakistani players are banned from participating in the IPL after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
Pakistani seamer Hasan Ali expressed a desire to play in the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) in the future and expressed a desire to see the Indian cricket team play in Pakistan. Pakistani players appeared in the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008.
The IPL 2008 included players such as Shoaib Akhtar, Misbah-Ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Hafeez, Salman Butt, Kamran Akmal, and Sohail Tanvir, among others. However, the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks occurred in November of the same year.
Since then, Pakistani players have been barred from competing in the Indian Premier League. This decision was made during a period of strained diplomatic relations between the two countries, and it had an impact on Pakistani cricketers’ participation in one of the world’s most popular T20 tournaments.
However, Hasan Ali has showed willingness to play in the Indian Premier League, if the BCCI allows Pakistani players to become part of the most successful T20 league in the world.
“Every player wants to play IPL and it is my wish to play there. It is one of the biggest leagues in the world and I will definitely play there if there is an opportunity in the future,” Hasan Ali in an interview with Samma TV.
The pacer went on to add, “It’s not like no one wants to play. But obviously, we can’t play there for reasons I don’t want to talk about, everyone knows. I wish to play there. If given the opportunity I will definitely play there.”
Hasan Ali has thrived in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United, and he presently has 94 wickets, trailing only Wahab Riaz’s 113.
“It’s not fair. India should come to Pakistan and play cricket”- Hasan Ali
Hasan Ali has a special relationship with India as his wife hails from Hyderabad, India. During the World Cup, while rest of the Pakistan went back, Hasan extended his stay. His wife has posted several pictures of the couple enjoying their time in India.
Further in the interview, Hasan also stated that the Indian cricket team should travel to Pakistan for a bilateral series.
“It’s not fair. India should come to Pakistan and play cricket. Every team has played here. New Zealand came here, they left because of a security threat but came back again and played the entire series. We have the best security. India should definitely come and play in Pakistan,” he said.
