India are the defending champions of the Women’s Asia Cup T20.

In a few days, the ninth Women’s Asia Cup will begin in Sri Lanka, with India, the reigning champions, returning to the competition as clear favorites to keep the championship.

The fact that the competition is bigger than before and happening a few months before Bangladesh host the T20 World Cup gives it even more significance. Similar to how it happened with the men’s ODI format last year, the Asia Cup serves as an effective prelude to the World Cup because both competitions are held in the subcontinent.

The Indian team led by Harmanpreet Kaur has reached Sri Lanka as well. India are the defending champions and will look for their unprecedented eighth Asia Cup title. India’s first match in the tournament will be against arch-rivals Pakistan.

Here are all the details you need to know for the Women’s Asia Cup T20 2024:

Where will the Women’s Asia Cup T20 2024 take place?

The tournament will be hosted entirely at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla, Sri Lanka. The previous edition in 2022 had also taken place at one venue — the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet, Bangladesh.

How many teams are participating at the Women’s Asia Cup T20 2024?

The Women’s Asia Cup T20 2024 will include seven teams from the 2022 edition: Bangladesh, Pakistan, Malaysia, Thailand, UAE, and hosts Sri Lanka, as well as defending champions India. In contrast, Nepal Women, who made their debut in the continental competition in 2016, return this year.

Two groups, each with four teams, are formed from the teams. Group B includes hosts Sri Lanka, past champions Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Thailand, while Group A includes defending champions India, Pakistan, Nepal, and the United Arab Emirates.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
