Harmanpreet Kaur will lead India in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the UAE.
The Indian women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur wants to give the Indian cricket fans another reason to celebrate this year by winning the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 after the men’s team won the T20 title.
The Rohit Sharma-led Indian men’s side lifted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 trophy in Barbados on June 29 while remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament.
The women’s team wishes to recreate similar efforts as the men’s side in their upcoming campaign in the UAE in October.
We need to learn how they maintained their body language: Harmanpreet Kaur
The women’s team have fallen short in knockout games in the last few tournaments. India lost the ODI World Cup final in 2017, the T20 World Cup final in 2020, the Commonwealth Games final in 2022 and the T20 World Cup 2023 semi-final.
Kaur asserts on taking cues from Rohit’s team that was undefeated in the tournament about handling pressure.
“We have been really inspired by the men’s team, the way they won the T20 World Cup this year,” Harmanpreet said at an event in Delhi on Tuesday.
“They worked really hard for this trophy and won some tough matches. We need to learn how they maintained their body language for such matches and how they approached such games. We’re on the same road now and getting ready for our World Cup campaign. The team is working really hard and our attempt will be to give our country and fans another opportunity to celebrate this year.”
India are placed in Group A with Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Pakistan.
