Gujarat Giants bought a total of 10 players in the WPL 2024 auction.

If any team had so much to look for in the Women’s Premier League auction 2024, it was Gujarat Giants. They were in completely overhaul mode from their previous season. Gujarat wanted to wash off the memories of the inaugural season and start afresh in the upcoming season two. Gujarat also looked as the most active franchise in the auction table as they had several slots to fill in to complete their squad.

Gujarat Giants needed a total of 10 players to fill in for the squad including 3 overseas players. Gujarat looked clear in their plan and they used the advantage of the huge remaining purse amount in the auction as well. They bought Phoebe Litchfield, Meghna Singh, Trisha Poojitha, Kashvee Gautam from auction 2024.

Gujarat Giants had the highest purse amount going into auction

Gujarat Giants retained only 8 players from their 2023 squad and let go of several big names from their camp as well. Gujarat had the maximum amount in their purse compared to other franchises. Gujarat had 5.95 crore rupees to spend on players in the auction. They finished bottom of the table with just 2 wins out of their 8 league games and only 4 points. Gujarat failed as a unit and they couldn’t lift themselves in the previous season.

Ashleigh Gardner was the leading run-scorer for the Gujarat Giants in the previous season and they retained her for one more season. Gardner played all 8 games for the Gujarat and scored 204 runs at an average of 29.14 and a strike rate of 141.66. She also smashed 2 half-centuries for her side. Kim Garth was the leading wicket-taker for Gujarat Giants with 11 wickets in 7 games. Garth was released by the franchise before the auction.
