WPL 2024 auction: Purse value of all 5 teams going into the auction

WPL 2024 auction will take place on 9th December in Mumbai.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the list of 165 women’s players that will go under the auction hammer on December 9 in Mumbai. The second edition of WPL is likely to be held in February and March 2024. The inaugural WPL season was played in March 2023. Mumbai Indians became the inaugural champions of the WPL. MI defeated Delhi Capitals in the finals of the WPL 2023.

A total of 165 players will go under the hammer; 104 are Indian, while 61 are overseas, including 15 associate players. A total of 56 capped players and 109 uncapped players are on the list of 165. A maximum of 30 slots are available for the five different franchises. The highest base price in the auction is 50 lakh rupees, and only two players are kept in that bracket. Let’s have a look at the remaining amount in the purse of all five WPL teams.

Women’s Premier League Purse value remaining 

1. Gujarat Giants – 5.95 Crore rupees :

Gujarat Giants finished at the bottom of the table in WPL season one, and they decided to overhaul the team for the upcoming season. Gujarat Giants have 10 available slots with them and also have the highest purse value with them before the auction. Giants have a balance 5.95 crore rupees to build a team. Gujarat retained only eight players from the first season. They finished 5th in the previous season with just 4 points in 8 games.

2. Uttar Pradesh Warriors – 4 Crore rupees :

Uttar Pradesh Warriors have 4 crore rupees remaining in their purse with 5 remaining slots. UP Warriors had a decent inaugural season and finished third. They lost in the eliminator against Delhi Capitals. Warriors retained 13 squad members from season one and need five players in the upcoming auction in Mumbai. Warriors can try to slot in Deandra Dottin in their camp, as they have a decent amount in their bank.

3. Royal Challengers Bangalore – 3.35 Crore rupees :

Led by Indian opening batter Smriti Mandhana, RCB finished 4th in the previous season as they failed to get momentum in season one. RCB won only two games of WPL 2023 and finished with only four points. Royal Challengers Bangalore have 3.35 crore rupees in their remaining purse. RCB retained 11 players, along with 3 overseas players, and they will go into the auction with 7 remaining slots and 3 overseas slots.

4. Delhi Capitals – 2.25 Crore rupees :

Delhi Capitals played in the finals of WPL season one and lost against Mumbai Indians. Delhi Capitals, after having a magnificent run the previous year, decided to retain the core of their squad and didn’t do much hindering. Delhi Capitals are left with only 3 slots to eye in the upcoming auction in Mumbai. DC retained 15 players from the opening season. Out of the three, DC have one overseas slot remaining as well.

5. Mumbai Indians – 2.10 Crore rupees :

WPL season one champions, Mumbai Indians have 2.10 crore rupees available in their purse, and just like Delhi Capitals, they also didn’t make a lot of changes to their core group. Mumbai Indians retained 13 players, including five overseas players. Mumbai Indians need 5 remaining slots and will be eyeing filling in the upcoming WPL season 2. Mumbai Indians had a dominating run in the first season of the Women’s Premier League.
