WPL 2025: Captains of all five teams

WPL 2025 is scheduled to start on February 14.
The third season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is scheduled to kick off on February 14, 2025. The opening game of the tournament will see Gujarat Giants (GG) taking on defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Vadodara.
The WPL has been a major success and has provided an ideal platform for emerging Indian women’s cricketers to share the field with established superstars. The competition has also helped in igniting fan interest towards women’s cricket all around the world.
A total of five teams – Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and UP Warriorz – will take part in the competition.
On that note, let’s take a look at the captains of all these franchises for the WPL 2025.
WPL 2025: Captains of all five teams
UP Warriorz – Deepti Sharma
After leading the franchise in the first two seasons, Alyssa Healy was set to captain UP Warriorz in WPL 2025 as well. However, a knee injury has ruled her out of the tournament.
Deepti Sharma will lead the franchise in the upcoming season. She was their top run-scorer in a disappointing WPL 2024 campaign, where they finished fourth. The left-hander scored 295 runs in eight games at an average of 98 and a strike rate of 137.
Gujarat Giants – Ashleigh Gardner
Gujarat Giants were the most active team at the WPL 2025 auction and made the most expensive signing of the auction – Simran Shaikh for INR 1.9 crores.
The franchise will be led by veteran Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner. Gujarat Giants announced Gardner as the skipper recently, and she will replace Beth Mooney in the role.
Gujarat will aim to bounce back from their disappointing WPL 2024 season, where they finished last in the table.
Delhi Capitals – Meg Lanning
Meg Lanning led Delhi Capitals to the top of the table in both WPL seasons, but they fell short in the finals both times—losing to Mumbai Indians in 2023 and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2024.
The veteran batter has scored 676 runs in 18 WPL matches at an average of 42.25 and a strike rate of 130.75, including six half-centuries. Lanning will lead DC in WPL 2025.
Mumbai Indians – Harmanpreet Kaur
Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur will continue with her captaincy duties for Mumbai Indians in WPL 2025. Kaur guided the team to the title in the first season in 2023 and playoffs finish in the second season last year.
She has scored 549 runs in 17 WPL games at an impressive average of 46 and a strike rate of 138
Royal Challengers Bengaluru – Smriti Mandhana
Smriti Mandhana will lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru in WPL 2025. She guided RCB to their first-ever league title in WPL 2024.
Mandhana was in great form throughout 2024. She was named ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year after scoring 743 runs in the year.
She was the second-highest run scorer for the franchise in the last WPL season, scoring 300 runs in 10 games at a strike rate of 134.
