The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is now moving towards its fifth season, with the teams beginning to shape their squads for the 2027 campaign. The tournament is scheduled to be played from January 14 to February 7.
With the retention deadline arriving on September 28, the five WPL franchises have now finalised the players they want to keep for the upcoming season. The focus will now shift towards the auction, where teams can make further changes to their squads.
The WPL 2027 auction is scheduled to take place on October 28 at the Grand Hyatt in Kochi. The franchises will have the opportunity to bring in new players and strengthen their squads before the tournament begins.
UP Warriorz have made their decisions ahead of the auction, keeping 11 players from their previous squad. The franchise has also released six players, including some experienced names, as it prepares for the new WPL season.

UPW have retained 11 players ahead of the WPL 2027 auction. The list includes experienced names such as Meg Lanning, Deepti Sharma and Sophie Ecclestone.
Lanning will continue with the franchise for the 2027 season, while Deepti Sharma remains one of the key Indian players in the squad. England spinner Sophie Ecclestone has also been retained as part of the overseas group.
Harleen Deol, Pratika Rawal and Shikha Pandey are among the other Indian players retained by UP Warriorz. Phoebe Litchfield and Tara Norris are also part of the retained group.
