Wriddhiman Saha returned to Bengal domestic side from Tripura.

Wriddhiman Saha, a veteran wicket-keeper batter who will play for Bengal in the upcoming domestic season, has spoken up about his future. The 39-year-old Saha has returned to the Bengal squad after playing two seasons of domestic cricket with Tripura.

Notably, Wriddhiman Saha left the Bengal team before the 2022-23 domestic season after a disagreement with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). However, he refuses to address the past and prefers to focus on serving Bengal cricket for the rest of his career.

Wriddhiman Saha highlighted his excitement at returning to Bengal at a news conference held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, as well as his promise to give his all on the field during the next domestic season.

“I don’t think of the past or the future, but only stay in the present. And on that note, currently, all I am thinking about is about playing for Bengal. I have forgotten everything that happened in the past,” he said. “But I am open to help Bengal in any capacity possible. Since I am a cricketer, I would be better off helping Bengal in coaching instead of any administrative role,” Saha was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

The wicket-keeper batter’s return adds valuable experience and expertise to the Bengal team’s performance.

“I am not looking at retiring at the moment”- Wriddhiman Saha

Saha last played for India in December 2021 in a test match. On the other hand, he has played regularly for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The wicket-keeper batter has stated unequivocally that he does not intend to retire at this time.

“I am not looking at retiring at the moment. When I retire, I will leave all forms and all formats of cricket, but right now, I am focused on red-ball cricket, white-ball cricket, and the IPL, and I’m available for everything. I will be managing my workload with one eye on my age, but I still have the drive to play cricket and see Bengal do well,” he said.

With Saha back, Bengal now have two proper wicket-keepers in their side. After Saha had left, Bengal groomed Abishek Porel in his place and now Saha has said that he would support Porel’s growth wholeheartedly.

“Even before I left Bengal, I was grooming Abishek from the sidelines, and that will continue. I have been seeing his growth from his young days, and have been having conversations with him. I am sure the management will also aim to give Abishek all the opportunities possible,” said Saha.

Bengal will look to do better in the upcoming domestic season after a disappointing turnout last edition in all three tournaments.
