Indian wicket-keeper batter Wriddhiman Saha is all set to return to Bengal after a two-year stint with Tripura. The veteran expressed his desire to play all three formats for the Bengal state in the upcoming 2024-2025 domestic season.
The 39-year-old made his First-Class (FC) debut against Hyderabad in November 2007 while playing for his home state Bengal.
Since then, Saha has played 136 FC matches, including 40 tests for India, and scored 7013 runs at an average of 41.99. The wicket-keeper batter has raised 14 centuries and 43 half-centuries till now.
Happy and excited to be back in Bengal: Wriddhiman Saha
Wriddhiman Saha played for Bengal from 2007-2022 before shifting to Tripura. He now returns to his home state with the hope of winning upcoming domestic tournaments.
Saha’s switch to Tripura two years ago came after an official accused him of skipping some Ranji Trophy matches in 2022. This dispute led him to obtain his No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to play for Tripura for two seasons.
After returning to Bengal, the 39-year-old expressed his desire to play all three formats. Saha said that he will give his best for his state team and is excited to be back.
“I am happy and excited to be back in Bengal. I am looking forward to playing and giving my best for the state. As of now, my plan is to play in all three formats for Bengal, and it will depend on how things go ahead in the season,” Saha said during a press meet at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on August 12.
“Bengal now has a blend of both youth and experience. I hope this combination will help in building a strong team. As a team, we are not looking too far ahead, rather focusing on our job at hand and preparing well for the season,” Saha said.
Age is just a number: Saha on his retirement plans
The 39-year-old, who last played for India in 2021, added that he has no plans of retirement currently.
“Age is just a number for me. As long as I am motivated to play this game, I will continue playing. I have no plans of retirement as of now. As and when I think of quitting the game, I will retire from all formats of the game,” Saha added.
